Why You’ll Love Chocolate Date Balls
- Naturally sweetened: No refined sugar—just the natural sweetness of dates.
- Quick & easy: You only need a handful of ingredients and 10 minutes to make them.
- No baking required: Just blend, roll, and enjoy!
- Packed with energy: Dates are loaded with fiber and natural sugars, making these perfect for an energy boost.
Ingredients

- Dates: Medjool dates are the best—they’re soft, chewy, and naturally sweet.
- Cocoa powder: Adds that rich, chocolatey flavor. You can add extra if you like the chocolate taste really rich, but it might require a little more sweetener like maple syrup to balance our the bitterness.
- Nut butter: Helps bind everything together and adds creaminess. Peanut butter or almond butter work great.
- Maple syrup: A spoon or two doesn’t significantly increase the sugar content, but you can skip if you want. The dates do sweeten the balls pretty well, but a little syrup just gives them that sweetness oomph.
- Vanilla extract: Not essential but quietly enhances the overall flavor.
- Salt: A little salt brings out the sweetness, but if you’re low-sodium them it’s okay to skip.
- Coconut: Definitely optional! Some love it, some don’t. I personally enjoy the extra little depth of flavor, but if it’s not your thing it will not affect the final outcome.

Substitutes & Additions
Want to switch things up? Here are some fun variations:
- Nut Butter: I love the flavor of peanut butter, but almond or cashew butter works deliciously, too.
- Extra chocolatey? Stir in some mini chocolate chips or drizzle with melted chocolate.
- More texture? Roll them in shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or cocoa powder.
- Spiced up? Add a dash of cinnamon or espresso powder for extra depth.
